HOW IS THE INTERNET CHANGING THE WAY YOU THINK? here

1   Internet focus

Almost every page contains links to the Internet.  This section brings pages together which focus on the Internet and carers use of it to their advantage.

2   General low level of computer literacy

2a

Many carers are unable to use IT in the practical sense of accessing resources.  They include carers who have little understanding of how IT is used so much in their daily lives.

2b

Only a half of people in the UK aged 50 - 64 have used a computer and the older they get the rate of use also declines. See graph at No. 3.1 here.

2b

The challenge is to widen the range of carers who are able to use IT to improve the quality of life of their carees.  The carer world would be a very different place without the Internet.

2c

Perhaps one local step being taken will make an improvement for some carers.  See the 12 December 2013 update here.

3   Health literacy

Many factors determine the health literacy level of health education materials or other health interventions: Reading level, numeracy level, language barriers, cultural appropriateness, format and style, sentence structure, use of illustrations, interactiveness of intervention, and numerous other factors will affect how easily health information is understood and followed.  more

4   eHealth literacy

eHealth literacy is a term that describes the relatively modern concept of an individual’s ability to search for, successfully access, comprehend, and appraise desired health information from electronic sources and to then use such information to attempt to address a particular health problem.  more

5   ehealth carer literacy

5a

Not recognised as an Internet research topic. We can, however, recognise the criteria with 3 and 4 and work on 2 re the low level of computer literacy.

5b

Better still, to work on ascertaining the level of carer computer literacy.

6  Carer computer literacy

6a

Search for that title and not much emerges here.

6b

We can, however, give our own definition using that from 4.

Carer computer literacy literacy is a term that describes the relatively modern concept of an individual’s ability to search for, successfully access, comprehend, and appraise desired carer and caree health information from electronic sources and to then use such information to attempt to address a particular problem.
