The EDCM Campaign - Every Disabled Child MattersEvery Disabled Child Matters (EDCM) is a campaign to get rights and justice for every disabled child. We work closely with the disabled children's sector and our 34,000 supporters to lobby Government to ensure disabled children and their families have the services and support they need to lead ordinary lives.
I’ve (may need revising unless you decide to sign the page) just written to Edward Timpson MP, the Minister for Children and Families also and Lord Nash and urged them to improve the Children and Families Bill so that it meets the needs of children and young people with special educational needs (SEN), disabled children and young people and their families. The Children and Families Bill is introducing the most significant reforms to SEN and disability provision for 30 years. However, as it stands, the Bill will not create the joined up system that the Government wants and families with children with SEN and disabled children have called for because not all parts of the Education, Health and Care Plans the Bill introduces are enforceable. EDCM, Mencap, Contact A Family, the National Autistic Society, The Rainbow Trust and I think that needs to change. Time is running out to make sure this Bill meets the aspirations of children and young people with SEN, disabled children and young people and their families for a better system of support.
